Whether into/out of English or any other language. The problem is that word play and puns in particular often wouldn't work in the other language, while many cultural reference points would also be lost in translation. For example, in the British sitcom Birds of a Feather, when the overweight sister Sharon was having a dream about being rich, she dreamt she was going to meet the Queen and thus Welsh fashion designer David Emanuel was designing her dress and said to her "sorry Sharon, your figure is hardly Jerry Hall". Then her thin sister Tracey chips in to say "more like the Albert Hall". How on Earth would you translate that into your own language and keep the basic humour and meaning in tact?
