    They are old people.
Semitic. it has origins in North Levant but spread through out near all the turkey's south border regions.. and North Iraq and Today's Kuveyt aka Chaldea-Basra (Mesopotamia)
So. They are not like kurds. Predominantly Orthodox christians. They are among the First Christian groups.
They were Pagan before Christianity and descendants of Arameans..which is Semitic people as i said.
"Assyria" word is not their original ethnic name. It's sort of state or regional name i suppose. due to
The period of Aramaic kingdoms in the west(Syria and Levant) was ended by the Assyrian Kingdom of Iraq around 8th century BC.
so The Arameans in the east retained their independence under "Assyrian Identity" (Iraqi ones)
They still exist in Iraq and Syria...Syrian Assyrians are living close to Northern Iraq and Turkey border.
Iraqi ones living in Northern Iraq and Turkey border.
The Turkish ones although their population were shrinked due to genocide times in Ottoman Empire, They were also targeted and some of them migrated to Europe and USA (firstwave). After WW1, nowadays only 10k-20k Assyrians living in Turkey. Around Mardin province.. in Southeastern Turkey, whereas as much as 200k in both Syria and Iraq.

So I did a lot of reading about them. They're actually descendants of ancient Mesopotamians like the Assyrians and Akkadians (I didn't read anything about Aramean, perhaps modern Syrians come from them). I know that they're Christian cos my ex attended the church regularly. I don't like the term "Semitic". Somalis, Egyptians and Yemenis are "Semitic" too, and they look nothing like the people posted here! Assyrians look more like a mishmash of Kurds, Turks and Armenians, judging from the photos here.

Egyptians are hemitic all North Africa including EA Somalia and Sudan are hemitic they also share same haplogroup E1B1B.
Yemenis and Arabians and Levantine and Jews and Mesopotamians are all the semitis and they r native to ME ONLY and they are historically and genetically related they only differ by skin color due the environment the more north u go the more pale they are and the more south u go the more tanned they r that's why Yemenis are the darkest semitic group in ME.

Stop buying into this Judeo-Islamic "Semitic race" BS! Yemenis and Arabians are distant from Lebanese/Syrians and Jews. Levantines (particularly Lebanese and Syrians) are Caucasus/Med Island shifted, and are more close to Kurds than Gulf/Peninsular Arabs! Yemenis and Gulf Arabians form their own cluster, and Jordanians and Palestinians seem to come close.

Please look at genetic cluster maps and see how distant Saudis are (presumably Yemenis will be there next to Saudis too) and also see how more Med/Caucasus shifted Lebanese people are! So much for the "Semitic" race!

    EDIT...............:

Unsurprisingly, it looks like Assyrians are closer to Armenians, or within transition with Caucasus shifted peoples:

So I was right thinking that they look more like Kurds than Saudis, when they ironically speak a language similar to Arabic (Semitic). That's why this "Semitic race" classification is total bullshit and the term should only pertain to a LANGUAGE FAMILY, that's it...!

Some can pass in Southern Italy and Greece but they look considerably closer to Armenians or Georgians as well as MENA people. I do wonder how similar the ancient Assyrians were to them.
