    French was highly regarded and taught more than anything in Romania historically (19th and much of 20th century)

    They also took lots of influence from their architecture back in the day

    True, but with a note that in Transylvania German was taught more often than French (and German architectural influence was more visible there as well).

    After the fall of communism, English became the main foreign language taught in Romanian schools (in all regions).
