Brussels wants to influence the hungarian elections with sanctions. They think a poorer Hungary will makes hungarians hostile towards Orbán. They also gives tons of money for oppositionist parties. This is totally undemocratic. Hungary has every right to get the EU money. Its not free money, Hungary sacrificed its complete agriculture and animal husbandry, just like the domestic industry was replaced by western companies because of EU joining.
Putin has nothing to do with this step to blackmail Brussels.

Let me add Bulgaria got blackmailed recently as well demanding they won't vote for joining Bulgaria to Schengen if they won't delete the tax for trasit of Russian gas, it is so important for Hungarian economy that Bulgaria won't tax Russian gas

This is how the hungarian system always worked. Or do you think before Orbán clan, the leftis oligarchs did not steal the EU money? Of course they did as well, some of them: Sándor Demján, László Bige, Zoltán Varga, or the Gyurcsány clan as the most famous.

Orbán wants to stay in power as long as possible, but every single politician do that. This is the essence of politics, to get the power and to keep it. Do you think Macron does not want to stay in power forever? He would do that, but Macron has much less support than Orbán. Its not Orbán's fault that millions of hungarians vote for him instead of these incompetent oppositionist politicians who dont have any message or ideology for hungarians except the brainless Orbán hate and serve Brussels elite like slaves.

The peoples dont forget the previous leftist Gyurcsány goverment either, who created a much more authoritarian Hungary including police terror state, political trials after 2006 like in the communism, martial law in Budapest, thousands of wounded and crippled citizens etc, the hungarian media was more limited the conservatives had only one TV channel called Hir Tv, the nationalists have been discriminated from the state TV. This is Orbán's alternative today.

In 2006, my sister participated the bloody siege of national TV (M1) and she said the police used live ammunition against civilians. It was the "democratic" leftist Hungary, interesting Brussels had no any problem with shooting the peoples if a leftist government does it.
