In Turkey, it's easily Celal Şengör and İlber Ortaylı. The former is a geoligist, and the latter is a historian. Both are deemed very successful in their fields.

These are the scientists that I can think off the top of my head that get most of the attention when it's about a scientific issue. Ioannidis in particular is probably the top scientist globally. He's behind many indices and rankings that many around the world take as the golden standard for scientific credibility.
