Storming a government building or being the figurehead of an organisation planning or partaking in it, is insurrection in any country. It's what the law says. So rightly or wrongly, the law is on their side.

They didn't do that. It's a lie and exaggeration. It also wasn't a planned event from Trump.

Perhaps. But his role now allows them to use the law against him. I don't like it anymore than you do, but I don't expect the Supreme Court to strike this down.

If this goes ahead, and Republican states retaliate by removing Joe Biden from their ballot (that's what they are threatening to do), then there will be trouble like you haven't seen in your lifetime in the US.

Well. They legally can't, as Biden is a, by law anyway, legitimate president (not my view, but the law's view), and Trump is 1) impeached, 2) an insurrectionist, as many would perceive it over there (not my words): a traitor.

And as such, it would only make things worse, as the actions against Trump have the law behind them, whereas actions against Biden would be viewed as, dare I say it, treasonous by quite a few Americans. That would be a very dangerous precedent.
