HDI is something for consumer-minded people to cheer on. This formula was created by an Iranian (or Turkish?) economist in the 1980s, it shows the entitled regional mindset during the cold war where every state in region enjoyed an economic umbrella from one or the other superpower. Creation of some highways or colleges meant "progress" to those people at that time. There are inherent faults in the formula, it shows nothing about actual development within a country.

HDI represents a very rudimentary understanding of living conditions from a consumer perspective. A true picture of a country is listed in something like CINC . Criticism against HDI has been that usually, the highest HDI nations are the most foriegn debted (highest GDP : Debt ratio) service sector economies where external debt money is spent on boosting living conditions so that the consumer market and a flashpoint of investment can be created. HDI boosts up but so does the debt while indigenous industrial growth, and independent domestic or foriegn policies are reduced.

Also, another thing is that it doesn't count the disparity in numbers that amount to national averages. Let's say a country has a very small but very rich elite with a very poor and large lower class, compared to a country with a low variance in their average income. Both will have the same number but one has a uniform living condition and other won't.

Turkey is ranked 48th globally and scores 0.838, but the UN (and several other global organisations) classify it as part of Europe.

Too small, too humid, dirty, smell gross, there is no middle class, only poors and super riches, poors(HK citizens) can only rent maximum 10 m2 rooms or stay in crowd hostel type hotels, super riches are mafia, they do whatever they want, they can abuse or threaten whoever they want, Jackie Chan is one of them, people think he’s a lovely and innocent great actor but actually he’s one of the top mafia leader, even mainland China government fears him.By the way, let’s don’t forget the Brits, they’re the perpetrators of all the dirty business in Hong Kong.
