Melanie Phillips, who is a journalist I don't always like (her increasingly one-eyed fanatical support for Israel grates) nevertheless wrote an interesting book over twenty years ago called The Sex Change Society, which describes the incongruent and inchoate changes in society where, on the one hand men are encouraged to be more touchy-feely, in tune with their emotions and act responsibly towards their wives/gfs and children, yet on the other hand where women are encouraged to be totally independent from men, bolshy and outspoken, and sexually available without judgement and stigma. Plus nowadays we have attempts to deny basic objective biology altogether, and some feminists themselves have woken up to the fact that the attempt to deny the reality of sex is in some circumstances leading to the erasure of women entirely.
