This -slav (or in Polish -sław) comes from "slava" https://en.wiktionary.org/wiki/Recon...o-Slavic/slava (glory, fame) in this case meaning "to praise" "to give glory" and the part before it being what is being praised (by this name).

For example, an old Polish name (still in use) "Mirosław", comes from "Mir" (peace) and "sław" and means something along the lines of "one that praises peace" "one that brings peace".

The name "Slovenin" comes from "slovo" (Polish: Słowo) "word" and means "people that speaks one language" - as opposed to nearby non-Slavic speaking populations.

The two names (slovo and slava) are actually etymologically related.
I was afraid so because very many words are ultimately related.

I should have said: Slav is not derived from slava or slava is not causally connected to Slav.

Miroslav's Gospel was commissioned in the 12th century (in the year 1180) by Miroslav, the ruler (knez) of Hum and the brother of Stefan Nemanja, the Grand Prince of Serbia.

    Cool to know.

Interesting thing that in Polish the word "mir" is actually obsolete and not normally used and not understood by many people (it's only used in legal jargon as "mir domowy" - "mir of the house" "peace of the home" which should not be infringed upon).

If people dont want Russia to be imperialistic then maybe Muslims and NATO should stay away.
“For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places.” Eph. 6:12

Seens possible. Socialism united Slavics and other Eastern Europeans in the past for a long while.
It united even non-slavics. USSR had many ethnic groups like Russians, Ukrainians, Jews, Caucasus people and mongoloids.

I am huge Pan Slavist but it is tasteless to discuss it now when hundreds of thousands of Slavic men are killing or crippling each other while Slavic countries demographics is falling apart.

I feel much closer to the non-Slavic Balkanites and even the Turks than to the Northern Slavs. Yugoslavism has completely failed. Pan-Slavism? No thanks.

The more developed, rich and complex a society is, the less it needs cooperation with anyone. There is a neighboring country with a degrading society. What can unite me with them? Poles are OK, despite the difficult history of relations, they probably have their own truth. I can't accept the Balkans because of all the genocidal stuff. I live in a country, a society that denies the policy of ethnic exclusivity

While in theory sounds like something that would allow Slavic (and related) people to live in some kind of harmony and better society it always had a stench of another Zionist-related ideology if you ask me, as if communism/socialism/democracy is not enough and now we need some kind of fascist ideology based on very distant common roots.

    Changed my mind

    Pan Slavka stinks

Other Slavka tribes are too different from us, we can't understand each other

Down with Pan Slavka, Croatia enough!

    I lean more toward particularism.
