Maybe not, but they certainly sacrifice other people's lives in order to putatively spread them, with Iraq and Libya being just the latest examples. I've argued before that, far from being polar opposites, in many ways the West and the Islamic world are actually two sides of the same coin: even leaving aside the shared Abrahamic origins of both Christianity and Islam (though I think that may be one reason behind their similarities anyway), both are driven by universalistic, absolutist and messianic ideas about humanity, that what is right in their own societies and cultures must be right in all societies and cultures, no exceptions made. Thus it is no accident that most of the world's major empires over the last few centuries have come from these two sources. The main difference is that the West has secularised many of its formerly religious beliefs, whereas many people in the Islamic world maintain the same religious vigour as before.

I do agree on the notion that Western modern values are essentially secularized Christian values; and that there is a blind tendency to believe they are universalistic and therefore messianic by nature (as deducted from "reason" - at least perceived as such epistemologically)

i.e. "since we derive our values under premises built upon reason, and knowing that reason is universal in time and space, therefore our values should in a way or in another impose (naturally or induced) everywhere in the world - "it's the natural course of History" - i.e. Fukuyama's belief of the End of History and the Last Man)" - once the entire mankind will reach this level of incorporating those "values" (and abandon their old "tribal/fictional fairy tales, legacy from ignorance and primitivism"), we would live Eternal Peace (messianic mechanical consequence)

So somewhat agree with this view of final causes (teleology) - as French anthropological philosophy describes as "world-system"; which in fact are very few in the world nowadays - just 6 at best:
    - Islam
    - Christianity
    - "liberal human rights" (byproduct of secularized Christianity, propagated by Freemasons) or the dogma of "Freedom"/"Liberty"
    - "socialism/communism" (also a byproduct of secularized Christianity) or the dogma of "Equality"
    - "environmentalism" (synthesis of liberal-socialism from above; as a dialectical evolution in the Hegelian sense)
    - and lastly Capitalism/Market economy (post-modern nihilistic after collapse of everything else - our current state/what we heading to globally)

Not Judaism, Hinduism, Confucean China, or other ideologies (ethno-religious, nationalist) have pretention and objective to be universal and to "convert" the entire mankind, they are just self-centered - so tribalist in their essence (even if it includes billions of people, it's not a matter of quantity but quality/substance)

But Islam differs at least on the means, which structurally makes it different from the rest NOWADAYS (might be not alone in the past), as the other world-system, although universalist and messianic, don't induce sufficient transcendence to make people go beyond, at large scale, their individual life and material comfort

Yes I've said as well that China, however incredibly ruthless it was and indeed still is within its own borders, by and large it has left everyone else alone and doesn't view itself in the same messianic way that both the West and Islamic world do. (Now that China is becoming ever wealthier and more powerful it might indeed become more imperialistic in the Western/Islamic sense, but that's another matter). What's more, I agree that Fukuyama's "End of History" theory is just hubristic and reductive nonsense.

    Funny (but true) meme btw

Mirsad Mrkalj from Prijedor is the winner of the first World Championship in the fast eating of pork crackers, which was held on Friday evening in Prijedor in the famous tavern "At fat Neđo". The second fastest eater of pork crackers is his fellow citizen Emir Hodžić, and the third is Goran Gavrić Grga from Banja Luka.

    - Kudos to you Serbs for organizing the pork crackers championship. You know how to make them well, but you don't know how to eat quickly - said Mirsad Mrkalj jokingly after the victory and received the applause of hundreds of people who attended this unprecedented event.
