Strange how the world functioned before having several countries with populations in the billions.

It's no problem as long as they keep society closed to foreigners. East Asia is ovderpopulated anyhow.

Population will recover with need for kids due to economy and natural selection with those unwilling to procreate going extinct.
It's a cycle, and not that particularly concerning.

You really don't have a clue. It's not a cycle. The only example of a civilization that went through marked depopulation is the western half of the Roman Empire. Tell me how that worked out for Rome. (90% of Amerindians dying off from European disease doesn't count in the context of the discussion and nor does the Black Death in Europe because these weren't choices made, obviously).

Whether it's billions or millions the issue would be the same. Most people live purposeless lives. If you're just a part of the machine of a Chinese company there is no pride behind your work. There is no sense of self-worth. You exist as a means to someone else's end, whether the company or government.

“Imagine a society that subjects people to conditions that make them terribly unhappy, then gives them drugs to take away their unhappiness. Science fiction? It is already happening to some extent in our own society. It is well known that the rate of clinical depression has been greatly increasing in recent decades. We believe that this is due to disruption of the power process, as explained in paragraphs 59-76. But even if we are wrong, the increasing rate of depression is certainly the result of SOME conditions that exist in today’s society. Instead of removing the conditions that make people depressed, modern society gives them antidepressant drugs. In effect, antidepressants are a means of modifying an individual’s internal state in such a way as to enable him to tolerate social conditions that he would otherwise find intolerable.”
― Theodore J. Kaczynski, Industrial Society and Its Future

The above was written in the 70s.

You have no clue. Rome got invaded by barbarian horde, exactly type of danger I warned about. Rome went trough population replacement even before that, and went from italic to MENA like genetics.

I don't see the problem as long as foreigners are kept out.

And I would introduce tax penalisation to healthy childless people.

Pension system needs complete reform and when people are forced to rely on descendants to have money in old age birth rates would quickly recover. Additionaly, we need deurbanisation.

You're the one with no clue because you're ignorant of Roman history. The decline in population meant they needed to look to outsiders to maintain their military. So they're fucked one way or the other. Ether you don't have enough native soldiers to protect the empire or you incorporate foreign barbarians. The main issue was never addressed.

What is the evidence that Rome went through population replacement? We only know of the city of Rome for genetic examples. That would be like someone 1000 years from now claiming New Yorkers in 2023 represent the ethnic makeup of Americans across the country. We know for a fact slaves under the Roman's had a short life expectancy.

You don't see the problem because you're so limited that you can't incorporate new information. As I said many times before, and no one has ever addressed, who will support the growing elderly population? A welfare system needs an ever growing population to pay for elderly population that is becoming e a very large portion of society. Who is going to take care of these people?

Oh, a tax penalty on the childless. Is this tax penalty going to match the expenses of having a child or be more expensive? That would be a heavy tax. Guess who won't be in office the next election term. If it's less than why have the child just to avoid a tax?

Also, for a couple to have one child is not enough. What is the incentive to have more children? You need at least 2.3 children (more in some societies that need more taxpayers to support the significant portion of a population that is elderly).

22% of Croatia is over 65 years old. You tell me most people your age don't even have the money to live on their own.
