These are the "common communities" of my closest paternal and maternal matches. Some are relevant and can give clues, obviously some communities I would have no connection too. These probably represent my American matches, for the most part.

That was unexpected. Why do you think that you matched with the Western Irish and the Western Scottish (a new fellow Gael on the forum?).

So these are lists of communities that my close matches get (prob extends to 2nd or 3rd cousin level). These folks will have all sorts of ancestry that i dont have. As far as my father's side, I'm thinking I prob have some 1/2 Irish, 1/2 Slovak 3rd cousins, or something like that. So it's the Slovak part we share, related to my deeper Hungarian ancestry.

Now on my mother's side I do in fact have a 3x great grandparent born in Northern Ireland. Perhaps that is a possible real connection to the Irish communities listed. Although I have lots of cousins with Irish ancestry on that side. The Cornwall is 100% correct though.

Also, I think this tool is still in beta, so it probably has some kinks to be worked out. Just ask hazmatnik about that.

I don't seem to have that feature that Mr G and hazmatnik are using.

I have to go into dna matches by parent and then look at common communities but it's not the list that you guys get.

Here is most common for my paternal side.

    Maternal side

My brother's ancestry test has been posted in as I'm interested to see what GCs he gets.

If you have a membership, than you should have this feature. I access it from the origins page, you need to click on community inheritance. Although I suppose it could be that the feature has only been released in the US, so far?

Thank you for that. I do have it. I can also see that I have inherited no GCs from my father which is why I want my brother tested. So for people that have tested and have no GCs you might not inherit any from a parent which is odd.

I should be getting some of the Connacht communities especially the ones with Roscommon and North Connacht.

My daughter got Northern Ireland and Southwest Scotland so it's possibly from my father's side looking at the paternal side communities.

    Here's the Common GCs.

Oh good, glad you found the feature.

Yes, my mom gets Central and SW German, and also two US settler communities in her actual estimate - my sister and I get none of those in our actual estimates.

I'd question it, but this week I matched up to my dad's work partner who's parents are from the same village as Enya in Donegal. Stayed in his house in Gweedore for a couple of weeks too.

Got matches from Arranmore and other islands round there.

I'm waiting on my brother's results. They should be ready by March 15. I'm hoping that might be a day early. What I'm interested in is what GCs he gets and whether he will get any from my paternal side as for some reason I did not inherit any GCs from my paternal side.
