Am I a lost cause, or can I still get back on my horse and ride off into the sunset?

I have been wasting my whole adult life on the internet since I was 21 , back in the year 2000. I waste time, but I have done some things worthwhile.
Some people say there's no hope for me because I can never change at this stage of life, but I want to make changes. Some good things I have done:

-I got a 2nd job with a marketing company
-Working with songwriters and recording songs for them
-Joined a Christian singles group at a local church
-Put together a mobile TV stand all by myself
-Looked into affordable housing


I know these all sound like small potatoes, and not to make excuses, but I am mentally disabled and I must take smaller steps to insure my autonomy. I also started a weight loss channel on youtube and have lost almost 20 lbs since August.

What do Y'all think?

Continue to make improvements, which is a positive thing. You could be 18 or 80, but the main thing is the here and the now, so toss out all common knowledge and conventional wisdom that denies or downplays the present. Just *try*. You overcame some tremendous odds, so consider that in the equation, and learn from your wrong turns so that you won't go down a one way street and get hit by a Mac truck.

This is the kind of stuff you should really keep off the internet and ask a real-life friend about. If you don't have any real-life friends you can confide in, get some.
Honest interactions with real people keep us grounded. We can all find people online willing to cosign our bullspit. This doesn't do anything for anyone.

Life for most people isn't a storybook. If you enjoyed the time you spent, you didn't waste it. If you didn't enjoy it, figure out what it is you do enjoy, and do that.

There doesn't have to be some grand narrative.

Those are good steps. You may be a lost cause, but you're the only one who may be able to do something about it. Inertia is very hard to overcome. You have to do the work. No one else will. And even if you do act, things may not work out. But if you sit still, life will pass you by. I know from experience. There are no saviors here on earth.
