A lot of Caucasans were Cro Magnid like. Neanderthal have a totally different morphology compared to Cro Magnon (like the original Cro Magnid type 1 from France)- different forehead, more arhaic in general, way longer face with long mandible, very large teeth etc.

homo sapiens were more progressive, more slender and taller compared to Neanderthals.

Interesting so why do you have lantern jawed Caucasoids in Iran or Sweden but in say Portugal or Italy the jaws tend to a more gracile shape?

Actual Neanderthal-sapiens hybrids from Palestine do approach Cro-Magnons in many respects though.

Moreover, certain Cromagnon traits are undoubtedly inherited from Neanderthals such as the flaring parietal bones (so-called pentagonoid skull shape), presence of lambdoidal flattening and incidence of suprainiac fossa.

Comparison of Neanderthal and Cromagnon vaults seen from above:

Other early humans had nearly parallel sides of the skull all the way down to the occiput, as you know.

It's just an ethnic trait found in all paleo-Europeans (the pre-Neolithic element): be it in Portugal or Russia. They tend to have square-ish heads, robust build (both face and body), straight to curly hair, amber or blue eyes, paleo-Mongoloid like tendencies in the extreme North or especially North-East. There are regional variations in pigmentation, but not too large: in Iberian Peninsula they are darker (but within Central European range) while in Scandinavia they are extremely light (flaxen blonde), taller and more big-boned. What unites them is that "baltoid" face found nowhere else but in Europe...

How did people acquired these features is difficult to tell: before the Neolithic most Europe had a sub-arctic climate and a small population that was very isolated => they naturally developed their own "ethnic" features (as in all other animals)
