Because most people, and not just whites, view blacks as a bit different (or as the former poster Mary would put it, lowest on the 'race ladder'). In a perverse kind of way, I actually think that the WN Steve Sailer had a point: contrary to the commonplace notion that the main divide in the US is White versus non-White, in many ways it is actually Black versus non-Black, and politics should reflect that.
