I managed to track down the paper trail for my Huguenot ancestors. They mostly originated in Nîmes, but moved directly to South Carolina instead of elsewhere in Europe. How much would Southern American Huguenots have differed from Huguenots that assimilated into English, German, Dutch, Swedish, etc societies?
Surnames: Chauvet (Nîmes), Dumas (Nîmes), Chatonat (Mézières-sur-Couesnon, Ille-et-Vilaine, Bretagne), Blondeau (Dampierre-en-Crot), Avant/Aunant (Nîmes), DeLochiou (Arcadia, Canada), de la Via (Pas-de-Calais), Ferreris (Enkhuizen, Netherlands)
