A thread for posting photos by well-known photographers or photographers you simply like. Try to limit the number of photos per post between one to three. A footnote about the author or the context of the photo is appreciated whenever possible.

I'll start with a classic, the Frenchman Henri Cartier-Bresson, known as the father of photojournalism and a specialist in street photography, easily one of the most important photographers in history, working on a variety of subjects such as world war, everyday, urban and documentary reports, as well as innovating photographic techniques and approaches ("The Decisive Moment").

Says Abell of this photograph which made the cover of the September 1994 issue of National Geographic, "“They didn't know National Geographic-- clearly I was an American, I had a camera. And courteously, in a state of pure bewilderment, they stopped, stood behind their pony, and stared me down. I couldn't get them not to stare at me. So I composed the picture and I'm waiting, but nothing's gonna happen. And then some friend of theirs went by in a car, honked the horn, and shouted. At that moment a blast of wind hit the horse and hit their hair, a little bit, not much-- and they are looking off camera to see who's shouting at them. Click.”

    "Neptuno na Horta"

"On February 15, 1986, Saturday, between 12 pm and 4 pm, unexpectedly, the largest storm of the century hit the Azores, with winds reaching speeds of around 250 km/h.
José Henriques Azevedo took photographs during and after the storm. The waves reached heights between 15 and 20 meters and the sprays reached 60 meters.
Two years later, wanting to show the event more easily to yachtsmen, José Henrique transferred two of the photographs from slides to paper. He then discovered that at the moment he had taken one of them, a figure had formed in the break of the wave (hair, eyes, nose, mouth and beard) giving him the name "Neptune in Horta"."

“Learn how to see. Realize that everything connects with everything else.”
    -Leonardo da Vinci
