Not as often. But the hyperbole is so great behind many female artists. If they do a lousy cover of a song they get praised for their "vocal prowess". I have to ask if the people have hearing issues? I'm not saying there aren't any good female singers, there are plenty. But the ones that get the most attention seem to be the least pleasant, IMO.
BTW, look at Madonna's atrocious version of "American Pie". Not only does she completely ruin it, she misses the true meaning behind the song.

Here are three female singers singing a song better than the male who wrote the song.
There are from the Americana/roots stuff I grew up on.
It is gender swapped so the title is different.
Notice his first name is spelled joHn
of course, Lucinda Williams was the queen of caterwauling in the nineties.
That didn't stop her from winning grammys and being featured in films including the very first x-men

I enjoy listening to women sing. Unfortunately, western musicians these days give little incentives to make me enjoy listening to their products. Thank God for Kpop and J-Pop though. Now those guys are amazing!
