Explain, i don't really see a distinction between Austrians and Germans or i haven't been alerted to one yet by anyone, there are minor differences just like there are minor differences between Yorkshiremen and Nottinghamshiremen but Austria doesn't strike me as drastically different from Germany.

As well as the fact that Yorkshiremen identify as English, while most modern Austrians don't identify as Germans. As well as the fact that Yorkshire is genetically closer to any part of England than Austria is to most of Germany.

Austria was part of HRE for most of history. Austrian "identity" in ethnic sense is invented post WW2 thing, it never existed.
They strongly identify with local region, but this is specific for all Germans

Yorkshire used to be part of the kingdom of Northumbria and Germany hasn't been a country for that long anyway. Yorkshiremen don't even identify with the southern English that much and many see themselves more like the Scottish. Are Austrians that genetically different from Bavarians?

For the most part they are (some Austrians are same like Bavarians though), but why does that matter?
Germans are not genetically uniform and descend from different tribes.
