It depends.

I really do not believe in being shallow or vain (outside of like, personal romantic relationships). I try not to be that way as much as possible. Many people will treat everyone as equally as possible regardless of their opinion on the person's beauty.

But society at large is not ready to let go of this.

Yes in my experiences it is the most important, I don't agree with it and strongly dislike it, but no matter how nice and motivated of a person you are in my experience if you don't meet the beauty standards you will be excluded and dismissed and denied opportunities you deserved regardless in certain areas of your life.

What else can explain why my some of my old friends only wanted to associate with my sister who barely made any effort at all to talk to them or get to know them, while I did the world for them to be a good friend and be there for them in their life only to be ignored and shunned in comparison? Also how was my sister able to get the exact same jobs I tried to get with the same level of experience and not studying the company or preparing at all while I did? Why did she get offers to be a model and get jobs without interviews but I never did? why did she get invited to tons of birthday parties and exclusive social events of people we both knew equally well? We all know the answer It's very obvious, but most people try to dodge the question because most people are too uncomfortable to be honest about their biases towards other looks and instead will stretch the answer and say some bullshit like "It's personality" "she just got lucky" or "It's because she has better social skills" or some bogus nonsense. I do not have anything against my sister at all though lol It's not her fault It's societies, and I can't 100% prove these incidents were due to looks even if I suspect so, and unlike most people she has acknowledged she has probably benefitted from looks bias. And yes women care about looks just as much as men, anyone who tells you otherwise is lying.

I have also witnessed people with better looks or who are taller getting promoted at work multiple times who really didn't deserve it (or didn't even want it sometimes!) over a shorter or less attractive person who was much more competent and deserving. Of course this doesn't always happen but it does happen.
