Coming out as gay is something that most men interpret as something that is emasculating and shameful (I'm not saying it's what i think or not but it's the reality) therefore the opposite of cool. In Portugal, most of the gay television presenters (and there are many) are exclusively in programs that have a majority female audience, because women are usually more receptive to them whereas most men don't relate to them. Some women (not all) find it fascinating, funny or appealing to see a man full of feminine tics, there is probably some appeal in the eccentricity, but I wouldn't say they find them cool because of their sexual choice.

You are trying to bash or distance yourself from the so called feminine gays but on the other hand you don't realize that you are in most people's eyes not any different. If you publicly say to wear or buy thongs (as you mentioned recently) most men will find that feminine or emasculate and therefore not any different from what most people envision as the stereotypical gay man. Most people who gravitated or actively showed interest in that thread were also women; like I said women are generally more likely to find that erratic and feminine behavior in males rather eccentric and funny because you are talking about something they can somewhat relate to, while most men will cringe. Also if being gay was cool or popular you would have come out already in real life. Society will always be harsher towards any behavior that deviates from the norms of a said society.
