Why straight women like evil men

Long time ago I've observed that women tend to like bullies (=men who are dominant over other men). When I read about evolutionary psychology it all made sense. Women want a man that's capable of defending them, "bad boys" are more likely to defend them than a nice guy. They like tall men for the same reason: feeling of security. Humans are a warlike species, just look at human history. Do you think "nice guys" would do well in a war?

That being said, I do not believe that average women want to have sex with serial killers, only a minority of women do.
Much of this "women want bad boys" seem exaggerated to me, most women like normal men not criminals.

I always found this to be the stupidest thing the average woman is shallow about lol.

I used to be friends with a group of incels online. They liked talking to me because unlike most people, I didn't tell them to just take a shower, put themselves out there, and they'll magically get girlfriends. I validated their pain and told them that yes, women are less likely to date them if they are short, not conventionally handsome, etc. and the were basically astonished that they were speaking to a woman who didn't tell them it was all in their heads. Because it's not. Anyway, most of them ended up eventually becoming romantically successful, by some path that was not as clear cut as it would be for a 6 ft tall ripped lawyer with a giant house or whatever.

I mean is that really the case? For every young girl who has a crush on some fictional character who is a bad boy, there is a middle ages woman reading a romance novel about the most tender, sensitive, but ripped and sexy dude ever lol. People are still individuals with varying taste despite there being some obvious trends.
