Personal experience + to put it in the Colonels words I got a spiritual connection to conservatives and/or country folks of Northern Euro stock. On the other hand I also really like the French and obviously much, much more so than the "woke" Americans.

I am a qualified Francophile - I admire their greater appreciation of culture, sex and social democracy all at once compared to most Anglo nations.

I may be a bit more practical minded there, as I really appreciate their more than fair treatment of their occupational zone in Germany, given our shared history, which in turn obviously contributed a lot to the good relations we have today. If I'm being honest I'd much rather prefered to have had them as allies than the Italians. Of course I also really like their inert sense for all things beauty, their architecture and music as well as their newly found love for their celtic roots. I also felt very welcome when visiting there.

Jes ne parle pas Francais, sorry. My second foreign language in "high school" was Latin actually. It was a reference to WW2. I dont really get where the "surrendering French" trope comes from, cause they've always been a very brave nation. I dont want to ellaborate too much this evening on such a serious topic.

I tried learning Latin for a while, but gave up in the end. (The grammar is a nightmare). What I also admire about the French is they aren't quite so submissive to Americanisation as some other Europeans are. For example, I remember how last year's Autumn Nations Cup final hosted in Rotterdam between Spain and Croatia was conducted entirely in English without a hint of Dutch (or Spanish or Croat, for that matter), whereas whenever the French host any sports event, such as last year's Rugby World Cup, they will always do the announcements at least partly in French, no questions asked.

Hell, they are too stuck on their froggy R, which belonged to a pre-revolutionary minority before it was literally shoved down the throats nationwide of schoolchildren, and their stilted grammar often defies logic as well. Naturally, with that said, these snobs of course make no allowances for any other French but their Isle de France variety. I love many Euro French songs, but when they over-emphasize that R abomination too often, they've lost a possible fan. I could do without pretentious grammatical constructions like Que reste-t-il de...? ("What is left of...?") as well, which if rearranged thusly, Que il reste, reads "Let him stay!" Geez!!
