Forgive me for asking this: with or without the AKP in power, do you think that Turkey will become the first predominantly Muslim nation to legalise gay marriage?

If CHP assumes power, it is possible.

    Would the Turkish public approve?

Some would approve, some wouldn’t. It’s hard to predict, but I don’t see the legalization of same-sex marriage in Turkey in the near future.

One thing I find droll and ironic is how some MENA countries have more liberal prostitution laws than the UK and US: Turkey, Lebanon, Israel, Tunisia. Further, Iran has a practice called 'temporary marriage', which is really prostitution in all but name.

I do not know anything about prostitution laws in those countries, including Turkey, so I can’t make a comment on that.

Similarly, the gap between Croatia and its neighbours Serbia (0.073) and Bosnia-Herzegovina (0.099) is bigger than the gap between Slovenia and Croatia (0.038), and Slovenia itself is identical to Austria. In addition, the gap between Norway and Russia (0.145) is practically identical to that between the US and Mexico (0.146). (OK, Norway is not an EU member as such, but it is an EEA member).
Croatia has very uneven development. I might make a thread about it since I travel a lot for work lately.

Zagreb metro area, Istria, north Adriatic and (parts of) coastal Dalmatia are quite developed and on par with well off parts of Europe. Rest looks much more humble, with region just 50 km southeast of Zagreb called Banovina looking third worldish due to specific historical circumstances and recent earthquake.

Yup. They pay for marriage, do the deed, then divorce. Quite the loophole.
