Default Are Spaniards closer to French or Italians?

As a Mexican with a good dose of Spanish ancestry as well the majority of Mexican population. I'm interested to know.

Genetically or culturally. Which were you thinking of first?

If I remember correctly, we went out closer to the southern French and then to the Italians.

According to oral family tradition E-FT155550 comes from a deserter of Napoleon's troops (1808-1813) who stayed in Spain and changed his surname.

    Depends on the region.

French from PACA and Rhone Alpes are definitely closer to Italians for instance

It's not so surprising because "French_south" is only the beige regions below on this pca, and even the "Haute Garonne" region (+ symbol) are already back in the main French cluster. "Pyrenées Atlantiques" region is basically half French, half Basque.

The only region that is actually shifted towards Spain there is "Hautes-Pyrenées" at the border. I guess the Catalans from "Pyrenées Orientales" most likely as well.

They are more or less half North Italian, half French (main cluster). Many do have recent or more distant French ancestry, in the same way that Catalans on the other side of the border are about halfsies.
