Like this dude is supposedly fully German...but he looks clearly not German at all? It's not even about the hair color or whatever no because Michael Ballack looks very German despite not being super pale and having darker hair but Hummels looks like he's part Turkish or part Arabic or something.

Am I the only one who thinks this? Like he doesn't look even remotely German to me. His parents do look it sure but could this be a case of the paternity being different?

I think that many people basically think in patterns and stereotypes. And that is naturally to a certain degree. If you see a darker / rather Mediterranean type, you associate it with certain immigrant groups. Just like you are surprised when a light and thin-haired man with light eyes speaks badly German and 2 minutes later you see him talking turkish in the kebab store. Mats is simply at the more dark region of "our color spectrum".
If we talking about his Face...maybe it is just your subjective judging.
But i see his distinctive facial features have become even more prominent after he lost 3-4 kg of weight at an rather advanced age.

I think the pattern is: "rather dark" dude, trained, styled hair, accurate beard, not introverted, confident / no victim appearance ...can't be german

I can tell you by watching an interview of Hermann Hummels that he reminds me on Mats, the way he talks + his mimics and gestures.
+ you can find darker ethnic Germans in all National Teams back to the 1950's like; Fritz Walter, Wolfgang Overath, Bernd Cullmann, Ulf Kirsten, Karl-Heinz Riedle, Michael Ballack u mentioned. But look at Riedle: Could be 80's Stallone's brother!

Many people both on TheApricity and on other forums and sites agree with me anyways because they also believe Hummels looks different. I'm not even German so I have no interest in whitewashing/darkwashing whatever groups, was just wondering about his unique phenotype out of simple curiosity.

Go a bit east, and ask yourself do you think a phenotype like his is rare in a place like Slovakia? The answer is no, it's a very typical one. So why do you think it wouldn't pop up in Germany?
