    Yes these things are a bit hit and miss. I also have relatives that lived to a healthy old age and one Aunt on my dad's side who smoked her whole life yet did not get cancer. I don't worry myself too much about it.

    I mentioned that my dad passed when I was a kid. I was college age (too young to drink), but that seems like a kid to me now. Like you, I don't fret about disease and sickness, especially since I haven't had the flu in decades. The last time that I had the flu was the last time that I got a flu shot.

    I don't see any particular Scandinavian influence (although my father's gedmatch results are very Scandinavian shifted, and there was that dubious old anthro map showing this area as the fairest-haired part of Ireland), but they might look more British/Germanic than some other more isolated parts of Eire.

    Are these closer to Welsh, Scottish or English in looks?

    As an historical note, Offaly (aka King's County) was one of the first Tudor settlements outside the Pale in the 16th century, alongside Laois (Queen's County), and the Midlands had some large garrison towns.
