I shouldn't have said Catalan nationalism has never been ethno-nationalism. Early nationalist movements are always ethno-Nationalism. I should say modern Catalan nationalism has been defined by civic nationalism.

Daniel Cardona and these people used to talk about the catalan race and used to talk about the more inferior castillian race, for example. But yes, they had ethnic nationalist ideas and are the origin of catalan nationalism.
