Yeah, I remember the Satanic panic stuff. I remember there was a daycare on Long Island that got caught up in that. It was bullshit but the family who ran it paid a heavy price.
The satanic panic was almost always nonsense but there was some true stories that got downplayed or covered up. The one in mind is not in the 80s but late 70s with the Son of Sam murders. There is more to it than what most people know. David Berkowitz (or however you spell his name) was involved in a Satanic cult and there is reason to believe he didn't commit all the murders. He was the fall guy for a group of Satanists because he was the one who got caught. The police were content to the close the case with Berkowitz as the killer and move on.
Sam was actually the father of two of the cult members (both died; suicide and car crash not long after Berkowitz was caught).
