Mentally, what is the difference between irish and english ?

I mean the ethnicities of course, how are they different in a mental view ?

Are you talking about culture? English and Irish culture are extremely similar, having lived in both the ROI and England. I honestly can't think of a major difference other than religion, which seems to play a much larger role in Irish society, I also get the sense that the Irish feel that they are on the "up" after the troubles and the nation is developing, while in England there is strong sense of decline and the the golden years are long gone. You will never meet a English person who is happy with the state of England, be it from far right to far left, nobody is happy.

I think the English and the Scots, to an extent the Welsh too are more intellectual, there seems more interest and enthusiasm in nature, science, technology, the Irish are generally simpler and less involved in intellectual pursuits.

How are you measuring that? It seems quite an uneducated answer to make and very condescending to the Irish.

Even looking at PISA results Ireland is ahead of England, Scotland and Wales and has been for years.



It's not something I like bringing up but I do it only when people say ignorant things about the intelligence of the Irish.
