Three workers fatally stabbed at Knoxville truck stop, suspect shot and killed
April 7, 2024
Authorities say a North Carolina truck driver was shot and killed by a Knox County deputy after fatally stabbing three women and hospitalizing a fourth at a Pilot Travel Center near an Interstate-40 exit on Tuesday.
The truck driver was identified by the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation as Idris Abdus-Salaam, 33, of Durham, North Carolina.
The report of a stabbing at the truck stop at 7210 Strawberry Plains Pike was made just before 7 a.m.
Abdus-Salaam burst into the business, intent on killing, followed Joyce into a restroom and stabbed her 71 times. He then chased Denise into the kitchen and stabbed her and Nettie over 100X.
A customer in the parking lot tried to call 911, but Idris pulled her from her car and began stabbing her.
Although she survived, the other three victims did not.
A bystander attempted to stop Idris by hitting him twice with a vehicle, but Idris continued to get up and seek more victims. In total, the 4 women were stabbed over 200X.
He was finally subdued when the police arrived. The district attorney stated that Abdus-Salaam chose his victims randomly because he was "angry at all white people in general." His last text message to his girlfriend revealed his desire to "kill white people and go to heaven."
DA outlines details of officer-involved shooting after 4 women were stabbed at Knoxville Pilot
I apologize. I didn't know the article was from 2020. April 7 was the 4-year anniversary.
Idris Abdus-Salaam can be seen advancing towards Knox Co. deputy Jordan Hurst before the officer shot and killed
him. Salaam was still carrying the knife investigators said he used to fatally stab three women and he refused
the officer's multiple commands to stop.
