Among other things, the Bolshevik Revolution took place due to the former elite's ever-increasing Germanification. Peter the Great started this metamorphosis, or superficial distortion, rather, and the coming to power of the Schleswig-Holstein-Gottorp-Whatever dynasty (of which Nikolai II was a member) kept it on the same track, despite the failure of this Westernising policy to really find roots in the Russian Nation. When the chance came, the Folk shrugged off this alien straitjacket. Unfortunately, lack of political experience (thanks to the previous extreme centralisation and lack of national cohesion between the classes) saw a worse alternative seize power in the vacuum.
