Forcing nations into models that do NOT suit them historically, culturally and politically is a recipe for disaster, and the very OPPOSITE of all that a sound nationalist foreign policy should stand for.

It's not about forcing politics onto them, more finding common ground and agreeing in areas - the Russians under the surface have a lot of policies and views which match our own.
Both don't like the direction in which the EU is heading, as partners we could change that.
We can bring them around to our way of thinking, taking them away from their stand-offish ways by becoming something of an ally with them in regards to European policy.

"East Britain" was a term to suggest a similar country in it's stance to Europe, not a Brittonification of Russia.
