Still, it is just a German state like Hesse-Darmstadt or Brunswick-Lunenburg. It's not a natural nation like Ireland.

But isn't French language as popular in Luxembourg as German, if not more? Why is it a German state and not a French state?

They are Germans who learned French because it was a prestige language, just like how the Dutch people of Dunkirk learned French because it was a prestige language, or how my people, the Irish, learned English because it was forced on us and was a prestige language. That doesn't make us English.
