Universal healthcare.. for or against?

For, without a doubt, dont give me this oh you're a socialist or you're a capitalist crap. It makes society a step closer to utopia, as much as achieving utopia is almost impossible.

Survival of the fittest will still apply in a society or a "nanny state" which provides national healthcare.

America applauds its freedom in these sectors, but we all know it is all nonsense, they aren't even in the top 20 in the world for healthcare. And so what if the government steps in to provide for the people? what on earth is it here for in the first place? just to sit back and keep order? I have a few mates in the states who tell me how much doctors there take absolute liberties in falsely exaggerating peoples symptoms so they can charge more to the insurance companies, or the unfortunate individual.. National Health care is ethical, correct, and just makes sense.

For, I find it essential for people to atleast be provided in their basic needs and healthcare is one of them. I think the USA is barbaric for letting their citizens die due to a lack of money (or leave them crippled with debt) for something they cannot do anything about.

I do however support higher costs for some people, eg. if you're a smoker (which is a choice) you should pay higher insurance costs simply because you choose to inflict a higher risk upon yourself.

How often does this actually happen?

I'm not necessarily ideologically opposed to public and/or universal healthcare, but I'm not convinced it could be funded appropriately in the U.S. at this point. Anyway, as long as our current immigration & naturalization policies & (poor) enforcement remain in place, universal healthcare would be a disaster in the U.S. Also, universal healthcare is not constitutional, so if it were to be done legitimately, there should be an amendment.
