Ancient Bulgarians- Turkic or Iranic?

I want only people who have read both theories to vote, not people who have read their history book where it is written that "Bulgars were a small Turko-Mongol horde".

Unfortunately, this topic will remain a controversy for a long, long time. There just isn't sufficient information from the sources of the period to settle the matter definitely. I hold in highest regard the opinion of late prof. Rasho Rashev, if you are familiar with what he wrote.

That Bulgarians were pred. Iranic with Turkic aristocrats or Turkic influenced by Iranic tribe?
It's for sure Bulgarians were very mixed people, they absorbed many peoples but maybe everything started from somewhere. And I think the evidences for the origin in Imeon as Bulhs, based on writings of contemporary Armenian and Indian historians are firm enough. Moreover, the descriptions of Byzantine historians of the Bulgarians in the early Middle ages- their way of shooting with a bow, their religion, their rituals, etc, link to Iranian ethnogenesis. We should also not forget that ancient Bulgarians resembled Byzantines very much, because all drawings of Bulgarians at that time don't show any differences with the Byzantines. This also link to Indo-European appearance therefore Indo-European origin.

There are many "Turkic" ethnicities in Russia that are predominantely European by genetics and looks. Dunno why Bulgarians are so sensitive about this stuff. They are clearly a European nation.

Anyway, proto-Bulgarians were Indo-European speakers, taller with
~10cm than the other peoples in Europe, they had a lot of traditions about how to settle and rule a country and they were excellent warriors. Also they had several dinasties. I read some researches where scientists find a lot of similarities between the proto-Bulgarian language with other Indo-European tribes. The reseachers made the last year here in Bulgaria show that the examples taken from ancient Bulgarian graves (in Ukraine, Macedonia and the Danube region) point their origin back to ancient Persia and Iran.

And what about Tatars? Or Chuvashs? Yes, initial Turkic folks were like Kazakhs but the ones who came to Bulgary were probably close to the modern day people living around Volga.
