That may be true with other tribes like the Kimaks (Kipchaks) but nothing is for certain about the Proto-Bulgar homeland, some have proposed that they originally came from the Pamir mountains of Tajikistan, but there is no evidence for that yet. They were first observed living around the Sea of Azov shortly after the Huns vanished. One of the earliest Bulgar rulers was Irnik, which sounds a lot like the last Hunnic ruler, Ernakh. So in order to figure out who the Bulgars were we must look into the Huns, and we know from Roman sources that they were a mixed people consisting of Slavic, Gothic, Turkic, Sarmatian and other groups.

Huns were mixed in a sense of tribal confederation. All the tribes had their own yurts and their own leaders. I am sure mixed marriages occurred among them but they were not like the members of same community and they were kinda separated from each other as tribal groups.

Bulgars was one of the tribes inside Hunnic confederation.

Don't forget the so-called White Huns who occupied Northern India after the Kushans. Speculated as Iranic / Scythian as well!

I like this video on the Bulgar question:

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=O4oLGws3bNo

The only issue I have with it is that Slavic languages are relatively conservative to begin with, and more similar to Iranic languages than Germanic, Italic or Celtic... Many of the cognates shown here may go back to a late Indo-European connection, and to necessarily to a Bactrian/Pamirian homeland...

If all ''Bulgarians'' has that much problem about Turks as the retarted Bulgarians in here, they can easily change their countries name, Southeast Slavia or Thrace could be appropriate. It's not a big deal.
