Default Where did the Slavs originate?

Where did the Slavs originate? In the south? In the east? In the north-east? In the south-east? In Mongolistan? I know there is quite a lot of ambiguity about the issue, so I figured this would make for good discussion. Have fun

LOL wtf? I looked through the forum and found no thread about the origin of Slavs. I believe the Slavs are intimately related to the Balts and share a common ancestry.

I started this thread primarily to argue with people who believe Slavs originated in Illyria or whatever.

The origin of Slavs is very much disputed and You can find numerous answers. But most include larger or smaller parts of Poland, Ukraine and Byelorus, I guess.

I think Poles and Russians are the "most Slavic" Slavs, and people like the Macedonians are the most "mixed" Slavs.

That's right. A hallmark of Slavs is the haplogroup R1a, which reaches it's highest European levels in and around Poland.

No Slavs are the ''most Slavic'' Slavs because they are mixed to some degree. For examples, Poles are mostly Slavic with Baltic and Western influences, while Russians are mostly Slavic with Finnic and Tatar-Mongol influences.
