Are White Americans and White Anglo-Canadians part of the same ethnic group?

Would you consider White Americans and White Anglo-Canadians to be part of the same ethnic group? I think you could make a case for either side.

Whites in the Anglosphere, with a few odd exceptions who refuse to assimilate or are hostile to the dominant culture, can be said to be a sort of ethnic group, yes. The Anglo-Saxon ethnogenesis is at the core of our identity.

I wouldn't consider them separate ethnic groups, but they're culturally the same for all practical purposes. There's much more similarities amongst Americans/Canadians from the same region (west coast, east coast, Great Lakes, Great Plains, Rocky Mountains that between Americans/Canadians of different regions.

You could use similar arguments to distinguish between Englishmen themselves. Those in the West Country are much less Germanic than those in, say, East Anglia. Ethnicity is not so much a matter of ancestry but of cultural patterns and a sense of belonging. The only really obvious difference between Americans and Canadians is that they are different nationalities.

Incidentally, that 20% figure you cited is a rough approximation of the American population as a whole. As a percentage of the white population it is correspondingly much higher.

British doesn't just mean English obviously. With regards to that ethnic grouping in Canada it is more Scottish and less Irish and English than the same American grouping.

And I disagree that ethnicity is more cultural than ancestral. Scots in the Maritimes of Canada still have a rather high ethnic consciousness.

When you recalculate for that it amounts to ~26%, which is still considerably less than the same Canadian percentage.

Canada is mostly UK and French for the Quebec.
