    Default Favourite European Films

Europe has a long history of producing original, artistic, and diverse films. Every European country has greatly contributed to this body of work, so it would be great to see what some of our favourites are! List any European movie that you like or recently saw. Multiple country production qualify, as long as one country is part of the European Film Academy(example: French/American, German/Argentine productions).

Also, Georgian, Armenian, Turkish, and Azerbaijani films qualify according to the European Film Academy and European Convention on Cinematographic Co-Production, so no whining! Have fun and share your favourites!

I will just start with some recent ones I have seen.

Melancholia (2011) Denmark(and some other countries).

These are some Swedish favourites off the top of my head.

The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo (2009)

The Girl Who Played With Fire (2009)

I have not seen the American version, but originals are always the best. I just need to see the last one The Girl who Kicked the Hornet’s Nest(2009).

One of my all-time favourite movies.

    The Seventh Seal (1957) Sweden

United Kingdom has so many films to list, so I’ll start with a classic.

"Also, Georgian, Armenian, Turkish, and Azerbaijani films qualify according to the European Film Academy "

Heres an idea: make a thread with only European films, and another with only pan-european (turkish, armenian) films. Keeps everyone happy.

Other than that (minor) major annoyance, this is indeed an excellent thread idea.

A fantastically dark ending on that one Something you tend to see less of in American films.

    I like that dark side.

For "Jäniksen Vuosi" (Year of the hare), it´ll be nearly impossible to find english subtitles though The dvd contains only finnish and swedish subtitles. Canadians made somekind of a remake of the movie with Christopher Lambert (lol, Highlander), but i doubt it´s anywhere near the original

No whining. This is not a thread about whether they are European countries. European Film Academy accepts those four countries for Award Nominations and shows their films at European Film festivals, so we will include them for that purpose here. Don't like it take it up with The Council of Europe in Strasbourg.
