Default Queen: The Church's Role Is 'Misunderstood'

The Queen told a multi-faith reception yesterday that it is the duty of the Church of England to protect the freedom of all faiths in Britain.

Speaking at Lambeth Palace, the Queen – who is head of the Church of England – said: “Here we should remind ourselves of the significant position of the Church in our nation’s life.

“The concept of our established Church is occasionally misunderstood and, I believe, commonly under-appreciated.

“Its role is not to defend Anglicanism to the exclusion of other religions. Instead, the Church has a duty to protect the free practice of all faiths in this country.”

Her Majesty, who was accompanied by the Duke of Edinburgh, spoke as Baroness Warsi and other British ministers met Pope Benedict XVI to reaffirm the Government’s commitment to faith in public life. The Muslim Cabinet minister’s audience at the Vatican came after she called for Europe to be “more confident in its Christianity” and hit out at “militant secularisation”.

Yesterday’s reception for the Queen was one of her first public engagements to celebrate her Diamond Jubilee year and was attended by the Archbishop of Canterbury Dr Rowan Williams and the Catholic church’s Cardinal Cormac Murphy-O’Connor. Leaders from the Baha’i, Buddhist, Hindu, Jain, Jewish, Muslim, Sikh, and Zoroastrian communities also attended and the royal couple made sure to speak to each group about their particular faith.

So what if Christianity is being brushed aside and human rights are trumping religious rights? It's about time this backward-way country grew the Hell up.

How many Baha’is and Jains are there in the UK? Not as many as there are Pagans, I imagine. Why didn't the Queen meet Pagan leaders? Oh yes, that's it. Because Paganism is indigenous, unlike all the others.

There is nothing to be gained by kissing Pagan butt.

What is there to be gained by sucking up to Baha'is or Jains?
