Obviously there is already a thread about simply, "What languages do you know", but this is a more detailed question... What language were you raised to speak? What do you speak with your family, what do your parents speak? How did you learn the other languages you know?
First, my mother is the best polyglot of my family, she speaks Estonian, Chechen, Russian, English, and German. My father is no longer alive, but when he was he spoke Chechen, Russian, Ingush, very poor English and intermediate level Estonian.
My native language is Chechen, my second language is Russian (I say second language even though it is native, it is not the language that I think and live in, and I properly learned it not until school as a child) and then fluent in English which I began to learn in school (although, sometimes I feel that my English has gotten worse this year, because I do not speak it very much right now... good thing for the Internet to not lose it!) I also long ago began to learn French, but did not continue enough... and I can understand Ingush at some times, if it is spoken slowly or if it is written in proper cyrillic... but I can't speak Ingush at all.
My sisters, it is the same, except one of my sisters has learned Estonian from my mother's family. Between each other, we all speak Chechen.
