Default You and your family's linguistic background

Obviously there is already a thread about simply, "What languages do you know", but this is a more detailed question... What language were you raised to speak? What do you speak with your family, what do your parents speak? How did you learn the other languages you know?

First, my mother is the best polyglot of my family, she speaks Estonian, Chechen, Russian, English, and German. My father is no longer alive, but when he was he spoke Chechen, Russian, Ingush, very poor English and intermediate level Estonian.

My native language is Chechen, my second language is Russian (I say second language even though it is native, it is not the language that I think and live in, and I properly learned it not until school as a child) and then fluent in English which I began to learn in school (although, sometimes I feel that my English has gotten worse this year, because I do not speak it very much right now... good thing for the Internet to not lose it!) I also long ago began to learn French, but did not continue enough... and I can understand Ingush at some times, if it is spoken slowly or if it is written in proper cyrillic... but I can't speak Ingush at all.

My sisters, it is the same, except one of my sisters has learned Estonian from my mother's family. Between each other, we all speak Chechen.

Swedish is my native language since my parents are Swedes and I have only lived here in Sweden. I started learning English when I was 9. I speak some German too.

    That's my linguistic history!

My mother tongue is Latvian, but I also speak English, Russian and a little bit Swedish.
Both of my parents are native Latvian speakers though my maternal grandmother grew up in a Russian speaking family, but she attended Latvian school, lived in a really Latvian neighborhood and later married a Latvian, so she has never spoken in Russian with me.
While growing up, Russian definitely was my second language, though I am still wondering how I was able to learn it since the biggest part of my peers don't know the language. I started to study English when I was 7, and slowly English has taken over my Russian, since I almost don't use the language. I still don't know which is my second language Russian or English.
I am studying Swedish for a little bit more than two years and my language lever is - intermediate, but still I feel quite weak at it.
Besides Latvian, my parents know also Russian and my father is quite good at English and German.
Since I have German heritage, and since Latvia was under the German rule for 700 years I am sure that German was also spoken in my family.
My maternal grandmother is 1/2 Russian and 1/2 Jewish and her Jewish father was a Russian speaker and I have no idea if his family knew Yiddish or Hebrew.
I also have studied a little bit German, French and Latin. I can say some simple phrases, but that's all.

I must add, that studying languages is really, really really hard and right now I am not planing to learn any other language with the exception of Swedish. Oh God, help me with that!

American English first, little tiny bits of Spanish,French and Welsh. Multi-lingual speakers here are not common with Spanish (Mexican and Puerto Rican,I'm told they vary a bit) in my area being the most heard.

I wish I knew more and try to learn some Spanish as there's native speakers at work.
French and Welsh is not heard here on nay regular basis, but I like to dabble in them as I like the sound of French and Welsh heritage leads me to want to know a bit.

I'm not sure why we don't have more languages spoken here, perhaps it's a geographical thing as the country is large compared to the poroximity of so many other countries in Europe. There is also a resistance to other langauge use under the guise of patriotism but I think in some ways it could be a detriment to learning of world cultures. Maybe I'm wrong but that's my opinion.

I'm not an expert linguist, however if I can assist anyone with English questions, please ask and I'll do what I can to help.
