    Default Why I left Atheism?

    Why I left Atheism???

Well as you can see on my profile description, I have officially decided to leave atheism, for a major reason and life changing life event that recently happened to my girlfriend and me. Geist Faust asked me a good question on my profile and I got the idea to make this thread.

I'm not back to Deism, as I once was before.

Reasons: Me and my girlfriend moved into a nice looking remodeled apartment, it's old but good looking (was built in 1850 as many other old Pennsylvania houses). Well not to make the autobiography too long, everything was fun and normal until a certain point in time.

1st 2 mouths: I was still an atheist; rebellious to the own Christian/theistic believes I was raised to in my family. I didn’t even wanted visit the church my mom goes to that much; it was just about “reality” and me. We where living life as if anything that matters was just living the now and not caring about what's beyond this physical realm. Sometimes when we woke up in the morning we would find the doors in the bathroom closed, when we never even moved them, but we ignored it.

3rd mouth: This is when everything got creepy, the doors where closing more often, sounds where heard everywhere all trough the house, as if someone (or something) was in it to make us scared. One night, while my girlfriend was at the kitchen, she heard the sink shake very hard while a loud noise (like a growl) was coming from it ( it wasn't an earthquake or a car, as it was just concentrated on the kitchen's sink). She calls my name urgently but with a soft and scared tone "Sebastian", I then walk urgently into the kitchen and the noise and shaking stops as if nothing happened.

The other times, I remember hearing noises all over the house, she did as well. Sometimes when she was alone she could feel something following her footsteps, she describes as the hair in her skin stud up scared.

Then, it was my turn, one night I stud doing classwork on my bed, when I heard a strange noise next to me, it got very cold on the room , I told the being or spirit "leave me alone", "who are you "? then that's when the doors in the bathroom closed by themselves very loud! I was very fringed as it never happened to me before and I never really believed in ghosts and bad spirits.

That's when I felt that something was in me, I think it was the spirit, the bad one. I became very angry and rude, I couldn't control it well sort of, my girlfriend asked, "What's wrong? ". Then it just when away after a few minutes..

After that day, while I was at work, my girlfriend was moving things around in the kitchen (as any women would do, they like change ). For some weird and unknown reason the spirit seemed to love the fridge or its energy since it made a strange sound at times with it. Then that's when the spirit got mad at her. After she moved the fridge and repositioned it in another place, and its place put the dinning table with some wine glasses on top, she left, and the spirit knocked the wine glasses very hard off the table, one of them shuddered, the other fell on top of the fabric.

This was the major turning point, I was at work she calls me telling me she's afraid, I was so angered at the spirit that I just wanted to go home and confront it. I then realize it was better to just talk to it, so we did.

The next days everything seemed back to normal, nothing happened, but I wasn't to sure about it so I spoke to my grandmother in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic while on Skype, I told her what happened, she told me I needed the light of God back to me and the house, so I as her beloved grandson followed what she said, we prayed, and then I felt that everything negative in the house left.

Now I believe that there's really another realm, not just this one. There are real ghosts and evil spirits, and that true salvation is on God. I don't feel afraid anymore, because I know I’m safe by him.

So what am I know? Well I'm what is called a Deist, Geist Faust knows as he's one himself as well.

    def.
The belief, based solely on reason, in a God who created the universe and then abandoned it, assuming no control over life, exerting no influence on natural phenomena, and giving no supernatural revelation.

I know it sounds as I'm contradicting myself, but I do believe that God exists but he doesn't exert any influence over us, at least telling us what to do with our lives, but he does protect us from negative energies, like evil spirits and such.

I believe that every individual has the rights to practice what they want, be with whom they want and where they want.

Except that in especially older places, the building can settle/creak at night and air currents can close doors, or you can close it leaving the restroom half-asleep.

Besides that, I have had experiences which cannot be explained away like that which stop me from being an atheist. I call myself an agnostic, because I just don't know what is out there, I just know that SOMETHING is going on.

That is great. I use to have a Deistic perspective on the Divine as well, although I eventually rejected that for a more traditional theistic view (that gods intervene in more ways we can imagine). If God created the Universe, he would have known the outcome and what his creation would turn into. So why not intervene? What is the big deal? Anyways, great news.

Had a similar situation as your own, I myself am no atheist yet neither am I religious.

I could go on about the odd instances that I have witnessed in my days whether in Tennessee or in Ohio, but only one stands out to me: The door of the apartment in which I currently reside was dead bolted, chain locked, undoubtedly closed and secure yet still managed to become wide open on its own......

I will not feel so compelled to jump into a religious frenzy as many a member of my family would do, but rather leave it as one of those "gosh darned" moments. Could be aliens, could be demons, could be god/gods, who knows?

I can never be an atheist due to the fact, I don't feel comfortable that there is no higher power to takecare of us, and the world is complex so it probably had a creator. Atheism to me is dead block and has no sane rationality. The evidence is all around us to show , that there was indeed a creator. We humans can never understand God, because he is beyond that. The feeling and sense is just there. Denying God is like denying reality.

    I totally agree with you.

I think your home was possessed by ''jinns'', the same creatures that used to serve prophet Soloman but somehow Christianity lost information about them. In the Islamic world, we very well know of their existance, some people even get possesed by them. We recite specific verses from the Quran and they leave us alone. Some of them are good and some are demonds.

God is in contol of the world but for the trial bases He leaves room for us to do whatever we will but whenever we call onto Him, He answers. The world is a testing ground.

Interesting story. I've had similar experiences, but not to the level that you seem to have.

Anyway, I'm not particularly religious but I am spiritual and I find atheism to be very odd and atheists to be as downright arrogant as people can be.
