I've been a part of the Invisible Children movement for almost four years now. It's not a scam. Joseph Kony is very real and very dangerous. There have been numerous occasions where the IC have called for Kony to come and sign a peace treaty in which he will discontinue his practice of kidnapping young boys and turning them into child soldiers, but each time he has never shown up, so now they've got no choice but to go in guns blazing. It's not a scam.

For all our lives we have been told that Africa was devastated by [civil] war, famine, disease, etc...yet their population has grown from 221 million in 1950 to reach 1 billion in 2009. And somehow Africa needs more support (or shall we say 'charity') from the West?
This video presents us a one dimensional villain: we do not understand his motives...other than "he is not fighting for any cause, but only to maintain his power"...turns out his group is a militant pseudo-christian nationalist army.
They left that out of the equation...

I pity those who are actually naive enough to fall in that kind of facebook demagoguery. I really do.
We should not ignore the long-term effects of that idea.
As a matter of fact, it's quite coincidental that they released this video in the wake of the US presidential elections. I bet Obama did this in order to deviate the current attention held on his presidency.

Kony is not likely to kidnap my children in the nearest future and I honestly have more urgent things to care bout than some Blacks in Africa. All of those African "states" are normally ruled by semi-illiterate, semi-cannibal freaks. Don't see why this guy is so special.

So what? It doesn't change the fact that it's strangely becoming louder in the midst of the US presidential elections.

Boohoo! This century won't be any different from other past centuries: there will be turmoil, there will be war, there will be disaster, and so on. Child soldiers have always existed, and they always will. Trying to put an end to it will only make it worse. In fact, it is only through catastrophe that any significant progress is made. Altruism sure won't save them, and most importantly: it won't help the West in the slightest.

Kony is real but the issue is the not for profit organization known as "Invisible Children" is highly suspect. Only 30% of their funds go to Uganda and the rest goes god know where. To put this in perspective, Unicef gives back 90% of their funds to their cause. This not for profit refuses to open their books to exernal auditors as well, and their 3 creator reportably make over 100k. Not bad for making some videos and bracelets.

A bunch of tight jean wearing hipsters promoting some black cause guilting white people to buy a 19.95 (plus S+H) "Kony 2012" T-shirt. Hey maybe I'll occupy something after I wait on line for the new Ipad 3. Actually that sounds like too much work. I'll buy a bracelet and like them on facebook.
