Default Is Greek really an Indo-European language?

As languages are truly a fascinating subject I was trying to figure out why a language that stook practically alone on the IE language tree and never spread out further than its present day boundaries should be included in the Indo-European family of languages.

We know that there was old Greek and modern Greek and that speakers of modern Greek can barely understand old Greek.

It may be possible that the modern Greek syntax and some vocabulary were a result from their interactions with the Indo-European tribes such as the Slavs, Celts, Germanics and prior to that the Scythians and Iranids.

Nevertheless, despite some similarities Greek is still far from Celtic, Latin, Slavic and Germanic langauges all of whom do indeed have many common features.

If possible, some samples can be given to see what is the difference between Modern Greek and Old Greek.

Why are you confusing Indo-European with European? There are plenty of Indo-European languages that are not spoken by European peoples, so if we by your theory, tell me how would the supposed lack of similarities between Greek and Germanic or Slavic languages strip Greek of its Indo-European classification?

Greek is Indo-European? I thought it was an offshoot of Oromo and Somali

The answer to this thread is obvious. If not Indo-European what else would Greek be?

I've heard it said that the Greek tongue had more of a pre-Indo-European presence than other European languages.

    Yes, really...
    Armenian DNA Project

over 300 individuals that have already been tested, revealing that the Armenian branches of DNA are at the root of many branches in Europe.

Armenians belong to 13 distinct genetic groups that go back tens of thousands of years, while at the same time there is no trace of invaders in their DNA in the last 4000 years

    Says who?

Yes, when I read an old Greek text I won't understand it 100%, but most of it, I will.

    Yes, Greek and Armenian.

By resolving certain formulaic uncertainties in the methodology of Gray & Atkinson's phylogenetic approach to the reconstruction of the Indo-European language family, a new, independent study has reaffirmed the original findings, albeit with a slight chronological difference. Accordingly, and despite minimum estimation, the division of the Armeno-Greek branch of the Proto-Indo-Hittite mother tree can be confidently fixed no later than 6500 BC- meaning Armenian and Greek began to "behave" as distinct languages at least 8500 years ago.

Even if you wouldn't know about Greek any more than those Greek prefixes which are present in most European languages today, you'd already have enough information to facepalm five and twenty times at this thread.
