What is "southern Europe"?

Purely form a technical (not political, etc.) POV, Southern Europe comprises fully Mediterranean geographies, i.e., Sardinia (although it's really more south-west) Malta, Sicily, Southern Italy, Greece and Cyprus.

Western Europe technically refers to: the British Isles, Ireland, France, Spain, Portugal, Austria, Switzerland and Northern Italy. Some are more northern influenced and others more southern.

I go to the European map, and see the Southern countries

Portugal, Spain, Italy, Malta, Cyprus,Albania etc

Who want's to be grouped with the Brits? You are getting the wrong impression. If you haven't noticed, I'm a little more than half French (Breton), not just Galician and Northern Portuguese (together, Gallaecian).

The fact is that Iberia is neither northern or southern. The region is western and falls in many ways between what is generally perceived as northern and southern. This is clearly evident in culture, geography and genetics, contrary to what some irrational rabbit hole occupiers believe.
