Extreme tanning is very bad for your health, and I agree with the people like Supreme American who say it shows a lack of self-acceptance. I actually argued this point on a forum with some Asian women who were complaining about Asian skin bleaching, and I retorted well isn't it a similar form of self-hatred for white women to be obsessed with tanning?

It's fine to get a light bit of sun in warm weather as a natural result of being out of doors, it's entirely another to intentionally attempt to get your skin as dark as possible via the sun, and especially other methods like the tanning bed.

I definitely think this is a racialist issue and should be examined.

What I fail to understand is why it's acceptable to tell a naturally fair skinned person incapable of tanning that she's too pale, but telling a naturally darker hued person that she's too dark would be unthinkable.

Exactly. There's some sort of implication that darker skin is somehow sexier, and that is fine if it just shows ruddy good health from moderate sun exposure, but that's not okay if it means intentional baking in the sun to damage your skin. Which is what it has become, and that's why I think it is a racialist issue.

I generally agree, but the problem with the healthy ruddy look is that you get it only on your face and forearms. So it gets necessary to even it with sun bathing at the beach.

I don't see the point.

I use moisturizing sunscreen on my face, too, so that I get some sun but not too much.

I refuse to buy into the propaganda. There were times when I was younger that I tanned, but for years all I saw around me in the U.S. was a craze for young white women to tan to the point that it was unnatural, and I refused to conform.

I'm not an extremist, I'll go outdoors in a tank top and shorts, or a sleeveless sun dress, but I don't go in for sun bathing, and I'm aware of the risks of aging and skin cancer.

A bit of summer natural tanning is good and appreciated in 95% of civil World.
Only here on T.A. seems that it's a kind of "pervert" mode and people have to mantain milk-like skin for all the year.

I deeply hate sleeping on seashore or take tanning for hours as many people do; however, when i swim for hours or i walk on the seaside, it's natural get some natural tanning.

Well, if get tanning when i go out and walk on seashore, what i've to do, stay at home 12/24 for remaining "white"?
