It's like we have been doing it the wrong way chronologically. It used to be a lot more difficult to find irrefutable evidences for a crime while death penalty was common. Since DNA and other modern techniques arose, we are a lot more certain of someone's guilt and yet there is a sharp decrease in death sentences since 2000.

I am in favor of life imprisonment. Death penalty cannot be implemented in the EU.

Yes, death penalty is indeed a slippery slope but there are individual cases where the proof is substantial (school shooters for example) and dna sampling has improved significantly over the years to confirm rape cases and mass murders , I see no reason why cases like these should take 10+ years to finally execute them. (https://www.forbes.com/sites/walterp...h=3ef0f4f71be4 ) It’s pathetic imo. If our prisons were more harsh and demanded hard labor that contributed to our country in some way, I would be more against death penalty but it’s simply not the case in America.
Some of them are too dangerous to be used for hard (or any other) labor, if you put them out of extremely secure conditions, some of them would find a way to exploit it. You'd see more murders between the inmates and of the correction officers alike. More prison breaks aswell. The ones who enjoy relative freedom are for the most part not as dangerous and didn't commit the most serious crimes such as rape, murder or terrorism. I can assure you that someone like the unabomber doesn't have an access to a cellphone (or pretty much anything else but the basic needs, while living in a concrete bedroom with a toilet 23 hours a day). Of course, the severity of your crime determines the level of the security unit you will be send to.

Ofc if someone did something to my loved one, I would want them to suffer. I am a bit vengeful but I would feel better knowing that they are dead rather than living for decades in a prison.
I would not, but that's a matter of an opinion. If someone slaughered my family, giving them a quick death would be the lenient option, though in the US, the inmates usually spend years or decades on the death row anyway.

There have been cases like that. That's actually why the inmates spend so long on a death row in the US. Ironically, some innocent people with the death penalty verdict have been freed, which would otherwise didn't happen, since nobody would bother to reinvestigate their cases just before the planned execution.

Absolutely agree in cases of rape, pedophilia, murder, kidnapping or political corruption.

Yes, for such as domestic partner abuse, animal and pet abuses, rape, human trafficking and drug dealers.

The death penalty is immoral, or at least useless, because it accustoms the people to the spectacle of killing or torture, and because it does not repair anything; for unfortunately the death of the murderer does not restore life to the victim.
