More Neolithic survival basically. Heavily wooded very hilly, relatively inaccessible outside of the coastal areas. As a result more paleo atlantid types, Roman influence would have been minimal.

Tacticus noted the swarthy look of the Silures in SE Wales, but they were only one tribe out of many. There do seem to be more short people as well when I go over the Severn, maybe just an observation

The same phenonmenon seems to be found in England as well, remember the Staffordshire vs Notts comparison thread, Notts being the more arable part of the Midlands especially with neighbouring Lincolnshire seemed a lot more Nordic, same goes for some other south eastern counties too i would say.

This video shows actual Welsh people caught hiking under covid restrictions in the Brecon Beacons National Park. A random selection of people.
The paleo atlantid type is still only a minority in Wales:

Yes agree, Staffordshire, Shropshire, West Midlands generally, could see the difference to the east Midlands with the Nottinghamshire pics you posted. Seems to mirror topgraphy to a certain extent

English of course. Both overlap massively genetically as it is, but combine the fact that Wales has 25% of its population originating from England with migrations that have been happening for 100s of years it’s no wonder both will usually be each other’s top pop on calcs.

Yeah, the genetic remnant is called the Téviec strain and some Welsh paleo-atlantids display it as a secondary strain to the mesolithic-neolithic atlanto-med strain.

Many of them are tanned and have dark eyes. That results in an overreaction with people saying they're Iberian or something. Many english are like that too and there's a natural overlap there.

I could probably point out a group of welsh compare to a group of irish.
