The genetics don't follow this at all. There are a significant number of darker types in Wales, to the extent that other countries in the UK associate this type as the 'Welsh type' as it isnt often seen elsewhere in the UK, ie Kelly Jones, Gavin Henson etc, but it still only accounts for 15% of the pop in Wales.
Most Welsh are along the Atlanto Brunn and you get a lot of brunns, red hair is common, along with KN types, N atlantids and some remnants of Norman/AS settlement, particularly in places like South Pembrokeshire (Pembroke was deliberately settled as an English colony town, protected by the castle, as was Caernarvon and elsewhere. More castles in Wales per sqm than anywhere else in Europe, and they usually weren't garrisoned by Welsh people.
There was also a whole Roman Legion based at Caerleon, SE Wales, for 400 yrs, so they may be more Roman genetics remnants in Wales, however small, than elsewhere in Britain
